The background is good. At first glance, it looks as if you have lots of info, but then I realized the text is really big. You might want to make it smaller. Micallef also wanted the diary entries to go on the sidebar, so you should put them up there instead of on a post.
I agree with Andy. However, I also think that the font is hard to read on such a rich red background. You had a lot of good thoughts on the political cartoons and on the responses for your favorite passages.
